Kia Sorento
The Kia Sorento is a smartly styled and highly practical SUV that is easily a huge improvement over the previous version. Critics are impressed with the car’s usability, practicality and, as with every other Kia currently on sale, the brilliant seven year warranty.

Interior space for the driver is good, though some testers commented on the slight lack of room for the rear passengers, particularly with the rear bench in the models with seven seats. However the boot is cavernous once the seats are folded down. The cabin itself is well put together, though several critics felt that the materials used were below par when compared to rivals, such as the VW Tiguan and Nissan Qashqai.

As expected from a big and heavy soft-roader, the Kia Sorento isn’t the car you’d want to conquer B-roads in. However, experts did state that the car is easy to drive in a range of conditions, and body roll is well controlled. Some critics thought that the suspension was slightly on the firm side, especially on bumpy surfaces.

The Kia Sorento has three engines on offer – one petrol and two diesels – of which the latter seem to be favourable with the reviewers. The trio are praised for their refinement and punchy nature, though the general consensus is that the 2.2 CRDi is the best all-rounder, providing the best balance of economy and efficiency with performance and overtaking capability. Both diesels have a towing capacity of 2,500kg, with the petrol ‘only’ able to drag up to 2,000kg.

Value for money
The Kia Sorento is competitively priced, especially when compared with the premium offerings from brands such as Land Rover. However, at higher trim levels, the Sorento does start becoming expensive for what it is, with some testers having difficulty justifying the costs of the top-of-the-line models in the Kia Sorento range. All cars come with Kia’s class leading warranty.

The Kia Sorento is a very capable and commendable SUV that is well suited to life as the family workhorse. Overall fit and finish in the cabin may betray the firm’s cheap and cheerful roots, but the Sorento is a mightily fine overall package, albeit one that can get very pricey should you spec it accordingly.
